7th Science

Howard Street is unique among Salem-Keizer Middle Schools in that all students receive three full years of science education. The science program is designed to be a hands-on laboratory and inquiry-based approach to science education and meets the state standards in physical science, life science, earth and space science, and scientific inquiry. All students complete scientific inquiry work samples using the scientific method and research.

7th grade science continues our lab based science program. This class meets 90 mins every other day to allow time for more intense instruction and labs. This year focuses on Environmental & Life Sciences (ecology, environmental issues, molecules of life, cells, DNA, heredity, history of life on earth, bacteria, protests, fungi, plants, and animals.) Students will be expected to participate safely in all labs and work with lab partners or groups. This is a hands-on class that requires attention to detail.
