A filmmaker's report

I graduated from West Salem High last summer and I am currently working off and on in the film industry. Since graduating from Howard St. I have won eleven awards in film making, and have met some pretty amazing people at various film festivals. I really owe it to Howard St. for letting me explore the arts and theatre, it has really helped to define who I am today especially in the career path I have chosen. I have remained in contact with most of my fellow Howard St. classmates over the years and we all look forward to getting the chance to get together again. If there is anything about Howard that I love the most, it's the people. I made a ton of really close friends in those short but sweet three years, and the teachers are out of this world. I was hesitant about going at first, but I wouldn't trade the experience for the world. Sincerely, Brandon J. Miletta, Class of 2007

From another alumni - Game Designer

"Since leaving Howard St, life has taken me to a variety of interesting places. In high school, I took a bunch of IB classes, and more programming classes than I could count. I joined up with South High's theatre program in The Crucible, and reached Honor Thespian status in the International Thespian Society after just one year of involvement. After leaving high school, I struggled with trying to get enough money for college, had a couple near death experiences (Nearly escaping appendecitis being the most exciting), and finally wound up at Portland State University studying computer science. After being there for a few months, I started to realize computer science wasn't appealing to the creative parts of my brain. So I applied to the University of Southern California, as they're one of the few schools with a cutting edge game development program. Much to my elation, I was accepted, and am now taking classes about game design and programming, my major being offically titled, "Computer Science Games." It's a lot of work, but I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing.

It seems only fitting that it was back at Howard St that I first wanted to go into game development. Jotting down ideas during lunch, learning some rudimentary computer skills in the web design classes... it's nice that things are finally coming full circle." - Gabe Deyerle
