Bio:
Nancy Fischer is one of the founding teachers of Howard Street. She has been here since the doors opened in 1997 and has taught both the 7th grade and 8th grade Humanities classes. Before she came to Howard Street, she taught 7th and 8th grade English at St. Joseph's School and also served as the middle school coordinator and the Assistant Principal. She has been in education for over 16 years.
Mrs. Fischer earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education at Seattle University with an English Major. She earned her Master's Degree in Education at Walden University in 2004. She has spent 6 years with the Oregon Writing Project through Willamette University and has served as the Advance Institute co-director working with other teachers from around Oregon. She has also taught Writing Across the Curriculum for Middle School teachers at the 2007 COSA Summer Institute.
Mrs. Fischer was a recipient of the prestigious 2007 Crystal Apple Award, was awarded a teaching service Fellowship to Walden University and was a finalist for the Oregon State Council of English Teachers "Teacher of the Year" in 2000.
Mrs. Fischer enjoys reading, walking, hiking, writing and board games. She and her husband Jack have three grown up children.
