Esperanto
the Humanities and Spanish
One of the three pillars of Howard Street, Esperanto focuses on the humanities - social sciences, language arts - and literacy in both English and Spanish. This 'E' is supported by our study of world history from Ancient Mesopotamia to the U.S. Civil War. All areas of the globe are studied including the Middle East, China, Japan, India, and Africa in addition to Europe and the United States. This study is integrated with world literature of historical and modern times.
Learning a second language is a key component to our curriculum. All students at Howard Street are required to take three years of Spanish. Based on the proficiency model, second language study at Howard Street features extensive use of technology, media and hands-on projects.
