Howard Street Leadership Design : The Principal Team Model
We are very excited about continuing our Leadership Model at Howard Street this year. The traditional school principalship model is changing to meet the program needs as well as the financial obligations for Howard Street. In the past you would expect to see a full time principal at the school who is available and present throughout the school day.
This year the Board of Governors is continuing to use a new model of leadership. Cathy Mink is serving as the Administrator for the school. Joining Cathy are Lead Teachers Nancy Fischer and Molly Goldstein. Together Cathy, Molly, and Nancy comprise the Principal Team. Both Nancy and Molly have assigned time outside their teaching responsibilities to be available to students, staff, and parents. They are master teachers who have an incredible depth of understanding in the teaching and learning process. In schools, a key role of the principal is that of instructional leadership. In Howard Street's context, the Principal Team will be working closely together to provide instructional leadership for our staff and students.
Cathy will be providing overall supervision of staff as well as providing leadership mentoring to the staff. In terms of curricular issues, your teachers along with Nancy and Molly are the initial contacts. All three members of the Principal team will also be involved in discipline and student supervision, dealing with special needs, and working with the staff and community.
Another key member of Howard Street's leadership is Robin Johnson the Office manager. Robin has a wealth of knowledge and experience about the school and all the players and is an incredible resource for you.
We realize that this model will continue to evolve during the year. We do want parents and students to know that they are welcome to visit with any member of the Principal Team. We will work with you and our staff to make sure that the Principal's Team is accessible and available to you.
